A slot game combines a random outcome generator with a paytable and a visual system for displaying that outcome. Reels and symbols are the interface; the mathematics sit in the rules and configured game version. A five-reel screen does not by itself tell you how many outcome combinations exist.
Paylines evaluate symbols along fixed paths. Ways systems usually require matching symbols on consecutive reels without a fixed path. Cluster systems look for connected groups on a grid. Scatter-pay systems count matching symbols anywhere. These mechanisms should not be compared as if the same number of lines applies to all of them.
A cascade or tumble removes winning symbols and evaluates replacements inside the same paid round. A respin starts another displayed evaluation under a feature rule. Neither term guarantees that another win will occur. Always use the specific rules panel as the source of truth.
